I due volumi che qui si presentano raccolgono gli Atti del 'XII Colloquio Internazionale di Micenologia', che si è tenuto a Roma nel febbraio del 2006 e che ha visto come partecipanti tutti i più importanti studiosi della disciplina, italiani e stranieri, questi ultimi venuti a Roma da venti paesi diversi. Come i precedenti congressi internazionali, anche questo ha rappresentato l'occasione per fare il punto degli studi su vari aspetti della micenologia (in particolare, sull'interpretazione dei nuovi testi in lineare B di Tebe) e soprattutto per mettere a confronto e dibattere tesi ed idee apparentemente incompatibili. Una notevole quantità di dati nuovi, in campo archeologico e linguistico, ha prodotto conoscenze diverse e maggiormente approfondite sull'economia, la storia e l'amministrazione del mondo miceneo; di esse i 58 contributi presentati in questo congresso ci offrono un quadro complesso e in alcuni aspetti difforme rispetto al passato.
